There are about a million and one different stories behind Bloody Mary and all of them seem to be different. Even the people who do is have different ways of doing it, some just turn the lights off and say bloody mary, bloody mary, bloody mary then she is supposed to appear in your mirror and kill you. Others light candles and close their eyes and whatever other crazy ideas they come up with. Some say that they have seen her some say that nothing happened, but really if you have never seen her then how are you supposed to believe the people who say they have. Some say that she was part of royal family and she was Mary I who was the queen of England from July 19th 1553 until her death. She restored England to Roman Catholisicm. She earned the name Bloody Mary because she had almost 300 religious dissenters burned at the stake in the Marian Persecutions. The most common story of Bloody Mary is.. " Bloody Mary was said to be a witch. She sold herbal remedies to make her living and lived in a small cottage set way back in a forest. People in a nearby village were frightened of her and feared angering her, believing she could do many terrible things such as make their children sick or make their cows stop producing milk..In time, the little girls from the village began to vanish. Their families, struck with enormous grief, began to search for them. Unfortunately, the little girls were nowhere to be found. No houses or barns or building were left unchecked, they searched high and low, near and far. But, still no sign of the girls. A few of the braver villagers even searched the witch's cottage... still no sign of the missing girls. Bloody Mary claimed to have no involvement. Her claim wasn't believed by the people of the village. Bloody Mary's appearance made a drastic change. No more was the scary, haggard woman they were all scared of. She looked young and pretty, but even still, there was no evidence that she'd done anything to the girls. One night, as the Miller's wife sat in the kitchen with a toothache, she watched in horror as her daughter, who seemed to be in a trance, walked out of their home. She took off after her as she screamed for her husband and together they tried to hold the girl back, but she kept breaking free. To their despair, their little girl continued to walk further and further from the town. Their cries in the night, brought many a neighbor to their aid and before long a light was spotted at the edge of the woods by one of the town's farmers. Immediately, some of the townsmen were rushing toward the light. When they reached her, she was glowing as she pointed her magic wand toward the miller's daughter.Hearing the ruckus, Bloody Mary tried to flee to the safety of the dark woods. One of the townsmen had loaded his gun with silver bullets just in case his own daughter was ever in danger. He took a shot at the witch, hitting her hip and she fell to the earth. The outraged men grabbed her up and hauled her into a field. They built a fire. Then, they burned her at the stake. Before she died, Bloody Mary voiced her curse, stating that anyone who dare mention her name would die a gruesome death at the hand of her vengeful spirit. Eventually the graves of the lost girls were found near the witches cottage. She'd used their blood to restore her youth. It is said now, that if you are brave enough to say Bloody Mary's name three times in front of a mirror, she will come for you, tear your body into pieces and steal your soul. Your soul will suffer never ending torture as you will burn in the mirror for eternity. Are you brave enough to try it?.. Everybody at one point or another when they are kids go into the bathroom and try out the myth. Most people get freaked out and run out of the bathroom because the image of themselves in the mirror gets the best of them. Some say that if you bloody mary baby 3 times that she will show up in your mirror with a baby all covered in blood.
The story behind the Candy Man is similar to Bloody Mary, the story is just a little bit different. The story behind the Candy man is that he is a son of a former slave that got rich by designing a show making machine in the 1800's. He was killed for impregnating the daughter of a wealthy white guy. The killers cut off his right hand and smeared him with honey to let the bee's sting him to death {I'd say thats punishment enough}.. After that, they burnt the body on a pyre. It is said that the Candy Man's spirit wants revenge and when he is summoned he appears with a hook replacing his right hand ans metes out a heavy punishment for people foolish enough to invoke his name. Candyman is also a movie that was made in 1992. The plot line is ""They will say I have shed innocent blood. What is blood for, if not for shedding?" Based on the novel "Forbidden" by Clive Barker and Directed by Bernard Rose, Candyman is a chilling tale of what happens when modern folklore bleeds into reality.
Set in the city of Chicago, Bernadette Walsh (Virginia Madsen) is working on a University thesis about the origins of modern day myths. She starts her research by investigating the legend of the "Candyman", a hookhanded figure from the late 1800's, that is supposedly terrorising the residents of Caprini Green housing estate.
People claim that the killer can be summoned by looking into the mirror and speaking his name 5 times. Bernadette doesn't believe any of this of course and exposes the "Candyman" as being the leader of a gang of thugs on the estate, who is the person that's really been terrorising the residents. She then goes on to say the name in the mirror 5 times in order to finally disprove any lingering doubts about the myths credibility.
This turns out to be a bad idea, as the REAL Candyman (Tony Todd), appears soon after to prove that the legends about him are all too real. Fantasy and reality then begin to blur as the Candyman carves his way through several victims, each time implicating Helen, in order to perpetuate the myth about him. The tag line for the movie is "Dare you to say his name 5 times".. Do you dare?

Superstitions
As a first time blogger, I really couldn't decide on what I wanted to write my blog about so I decided that I am going to write about superstitions. Superstition in latin (superstitio) means literally "standing over". It is used in Latin as an unreasonable or excessive belief or fear in magic, especially foreign or fantastical ideas. There are some pretty crazy and pointless superstitions out there today such as walking under a ladder is bad luck or friday the 13th. People fear what they don't know so they make up silly superstitions and follow rituals to try to understand things. People knock on wood to not jinx something, they don't walk under ladders because {while it should be common sense}, a triangle was considered a symbol of life and anyone who walked through any kind of triangle was said to be tempting fate. In 1972, a song called superstition was performed by Stevie Wonder for Motown Records. There are also the superstitious meanings of dreams. Some of the ones about superstitions dealing with death include: a bird in a house is a sign of death, the cemetary.. your supposed to hold your breath while passing a cemetary or it is said that you will breath in the spirit of a recently deceased person, because that sounds appealing.. not. {my personal favourite}. Another great one is that if 3 people are photographed together, that the person in the middle will die first. (I feel sorry for those of you who are always in the middle). The greatest wedding superstition is "If a single woman goes to bed with a piece of wedding cake under her pillow, she will dream of her future husband" (first of all who puts cake under their pillow, and even if she does dream of him how is she expected to find him?). People come up with superstitions because it makes them feel safer about certain things. Everybody is different though so while some people rely on the rituals of superstitions, others don't believe anything about them. If you want to check out a list of superstitions, here is a site that you can read all about them.. http://www.superstitions.ca/ Enjoy!
